A few months ago I stumbled upon a journal post of a someone's head model they made in ZBrush. I hadn't heard of ZBrush so I made a note to check it out later. "Later" ended up being about 5 days ago. I watched some tutorial videos and I was blown away at how simple it seemed to make the modeling process. I've worked a tiny bit with 3d modeling programs before, and it mostly involved moving a lot of vertices one-by-one and the ever-present technical planning. ZBrush enticed me with its 2d-painting-app interface for sculpting 3d models. Anyway, after gathering information from tutorials, I decided to give it a shot. I fired up ZBrush 3.1 and set out to make something.

Attached is a video of a very rough model I made yesterday of my character, Brask. It took 4-5 hours to make. Please note the following:
- I was too lazy to model hands and forearms. LOL.
- The source geometry is horrible (e.g., sphereinder for the torso with multiple extensions and local sub-divisions to make the arms, legs, and genitals).
- I mesh inserted the feet. Bad; I know. And it made a giant ugly crease where they meet with the legs.
- The paint job is messy. ZBrush v2 had a tool that you could use to paint color without effecting the z-level, but I can't find it in v3.1, so I had to use the standard brush with z-intensity of 1.
- Brask is a simplistic character by design. He's meant to have very round features and very dark skin. However, I would eventually like to make a model of him using some pretty skin textures and/or geometry (especially on hands and feet).

What I would like from you guys is assistance:
- If you know of any good ZBrush 3.1 tutorials (video is preferred), let me know.
- Also, I really want to know more about ZSpheres. I originally tried making the base geometry for this model with ZSpheres, but I couldn't get it to come out good in the mesh, so I took a different (crappy) approach. I later made the feet with ZSpheres, so I think I got the hang of it for at least creating basic mesh shapes. Still, I want to know all I can about ZSpheres.
- ZBrush has crashed on me multiple times, resulting in almost an hour of lost work. I want to know if there's anything I can do to stop this from happening.

I want to keep learning about ZBrush, as well as how do things more effectively. I think it has a lot of promise, and it gives me the ability to incorporate 3d work into my pornfolio.

P.S. If anyone wants to see the model in ZBrush, here it is. You'll have to change the tool material to Fast Shader to get it to display correctly. You'll probably also need to add lights to see the details.
