FurAffinity's downtime has definitely impacted my ability to get this stuff out sooner. Anyway, it's been 3 weeks since I've sent out these scans and I haven't heard anything back about the artists' possible desire to modify or upload them, so I'm cleaning them up and posting them myself.
1. "Brask & Ket" by KaeMantis
I commissioned KaeMantis to draw this in my Original Characters book. I nearly missed out on the chance to get it. I showed up on the last day of the dealers area with a bunch of scattered, half-baked references and notes to provide Kae with. Before I went to AC, I prepared for the possibility of other artists drawing my characters in an art trade, but I hadn't considered buying any commissions. Luckily, Kae seemed to be fine with my hasty offerings and produced a very nice picture for what she had to work with.
2. "demons ac08" by Argon Vile
This was drawn by Argon Vile as a gift/trade. It is on page 2 of Original Characters. Featured here are a couple demons of Argon's creation that are having some naughty fun. I like Argon's demons, so it's good to have them included in my book.
3. "Ket badge" by KaeMantis
As I wandered around the artist/dealer warehouse, I was surprised to see that KaeMantis had a booth. I really like her style, so I knew I had to buy something from her. I didn't acquire any new badges since FC08, so I wanted to change that. So, (prior to commissioning her for "Brask & Ket") I decided to pay her for a con badge. She did an excellent job drawing and coloring Ket. I know I'll still be wearing this badge many cons from now. Thank you, Kae!
4. "Ket badge" by buffaluffalo
"Why stop at only one badge?" I thought. buffaluffalo's watercolor badges stood out to me amongst all remaining offerings in the artist/dealer warehouse. I like how the colors came out in my badge; it lived up to my expectations. But on the other hand, I am disappointed by her rendition of Ket. Most problematic is that his beak is overly elongated here. It may have been my fault for not providing a decent side reference. However, she originally offered to draw a preliminary sketch of Ket that I could correct/approve, then later dismissed that idea, stating that she had grasped the design of the character. Overall, it's a good piece of art, albeit inaccurate. July 22, 2008; 01:26 - Reply argon_vile: i like the more reptilian look of brask, i think it gives him more character! July 22, 2008; 01:31 - Reply Ket-Ralus: What do you think makes him look more reptilian? The mouth and foot are the only things that look slightly reptilian to me. July 22, 2008; 04:56 - Reply Ket-Ralus: *talked to Argon on AIM and he said it was the mouth* I'll consider altering Brask's design to give him more of a beak mouth. I have been thinking his current mouth is a bit boring, though it may just be because I'm not giving it enough expression. It was my intention to give Brask a simplistic, emoticon-style face. I'll mull it the fuck over later.
